However, as Jakob (13) reveals, it was not until 1817 when Dulong and Petit's (15) observations were published, that the precise relationship between the quantity of heat transferred and the surface-to-fluid temperature difference was established. These experimental results involved Newtonian fluids, and since that time volumes have been devoted to the subject. Only in recent years has attention been focused on the commonly encountered, yet rheologically more complex, non-Newtonian class of fluid.
