Abstract
dc:description.abstractMy work explores concepts related to temporal degradation and the impulse to preserve. Through the gradual accretion of fibrous material over extended periods of time, I produce stratified composite structures which serve as metaphors for material cultural advancement and highlight the role of decoration in examining the past, particularly its ability to mark an epoch. The various methodologies employed to examine my embroidered structures focus on isolating their components and contrasting the documentation of the object with the object itself. Finally, I employ a diachronic perspective that uses the accumulation of indexical marks to represent the passage of time. My work highlights the symbiotic relationship between physical object, data, and analytical structures, as well as the futile, but captivating, drive for historical truth in the face of inexorable decay.
