Intersectional microaggressions : a study of Asian American women journalists at workplace

This dissertation identifies the experienced microaggressions against Asian American women journalists. The researcher analyzed three areas of work -- the newsroom, the audience, and the sources -- to describe the complex areas of work that journalists navigate. Guided by the Microaggression Theory, the Psychology of Working Theory, and Intersectionality, this study demonstrates how journalists challenge the outdated stereotypes of Asian American women through in-depth interviews with 17 journalists and 133 units of secondary data. The research contributes to the development of the theories in the specific context of journalism occupation and the practical implementations of how a better understanding of the obstacles that Asian American journalists face might transform the workplace environment.
