An economic evaluation of supplemental irrigation on claypan soils

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

"Purpose of this study: Since irrigation is a new management practice of crop production in this area, the economic effect is not very well known. Very little information is available from actual on-the-farm records. This study was done to collect, summarize, and evaluate the cost, return, and investment information of supplemental irrigation using actual farm records as much as possible. Another purpose was to show the feasibility of supplemental irrigation on a case-study farm, assuming irrigation was adopted. Three equity positions of the farm were used in the analysis. The third purpose of the study was to make some estimate of the economic impact on the expanded adoption of irrigation on the community. The economic impact is intended to include both the direct impact on agriculture's gross income and the indirect effects resulting from changes in this income."--Page 4.
