ANNA DI SAVOIA IMPERATRICE E REGGENTE RUOLI E STRATEGIE DI POTERE FEMMINILE ATTRAVERSO LE CRISI DEL XIV SECOLO A BISANZIO.

Abstract

dc:description

This research focuses on the feminine power of Anne of Savoy, empress and regent of the Byzantine Empire between 1341 and 1347, on behalf of the young emperor John V Palaeologus. It focuses on two main areas: the foundations and limits of Anne’s power as a woman and empress, and the exercise of that power. In this second area, particular attention is paid to the creation and promotion of her imperial image, her entourage and to her power management, in which the repression of internal opposition is of particular interest. Thanks to a flexible use of her legitimacy and skilful political alliances, Anne was able to find effective responses to the multiple and profound crises of her reign.
