In the aftermath of the shock, policy documents were elaborated to identify the potential assets for the recovery of a territory that was already affected by declining economic growth, ageing population and depopulation, like most Italian marginal areas. Thus, over the past few years, a series of projects were implemented to foster L'Aquila's vocation as a knowledge, smart, innovative, creative, open and inclusive city. Since reconstruction is still ongoing and further funds for territorial development will be allocated in the coming years, it is considered useful to understand how the territorial fabric has reacted so far. To this end, a quantitative analysis of descriptive statistics on indicators measuring territorial development is proposed, flanked by a qualitative analysis of interviews with local syntagmatic actors to understand their perceptions on the strengths and weaknesses in the territory’s capacity to develop resilience.","abstract_html":"The research aims to investigate the capacity of L'Aquila's territorial system to develop resilience after the 2009 earthquake, transforming the event into an opportunity to enhance local heritages and undertake new development paths.
