Geschäftsmodelle von planenden und beratenden Architekturund Ingenieurbüros der Baubranche am deutschen Markt vor dem Hintergrund neuer Herausforderungen – theoretische Betrachtung und empirische Analyse
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis study examines the challenges faced by architectural and engineering firms in Germany, particularly concerning pricing, digitalisation, and the shortage of skilled labour. Traditional business model development theories, which encompass aspects such as 'corporate vision,' 'customers,' 'value proposition,' and 'finance,' often inadequately address these challenges. However, empirical research reveals that most companies are aware of these issues and are adjusting to varying degrees. Smaller, often owner-managed firms, struggle to implement appropriate measures due to limited resources. In contrast, larger companies tend to operate as generalists, while smaller firms find greater advantage in specialising in niche markets. The research highlights the need to further develop business model frameworks to better account for the unique characteristics of individual firms. Incorporating customer orientation and considering niche solutions offer potential for further investigation. Additionally, the study suggests including the client perspective in future research to provide a more comprehensive understanding of business models. In practice, it is crucial to design business models that effectively address these challenges. Key areas include knowledge management and employee retention, with smaller firms potentially remaining competitive through specialisation and the adoption of modern technologies. The survey results underscore the importance of personal customer relationships and strategic pricing, particularly in the context of increasing digitalisation. The study concludes that its findings reflect current developments, but given the rapidly changing conditions, regular review and adaptation are necessary. Future research should explore the flexibility and adaptability of architectural and engineering firms during times of crisis.
