A critical review of the existing literature highlights the underexplored dynamics of this relatively young industry, particularly in response to new regulatory frameworks such as FINSA and FINIA, as well as emerging trends like artificial intelligence, Robo-Advisors, and the impact of the ,great wealth transfer’ on the next generation of clients and employees. This research addresses the gap in understanding how independent asset managers can adapt to these changes and enhance their long-term competitiveness. The study employs a structured literature review and systematic analysis of primary data to develop a model for future viability, specifically tailored to the IAM sector. A qualitative approach, focusing on Swiss IAMs, is used to analyze key elements of strategic management critical to ensuring future viability. The research examines external pressures, including competition, digitalization, and regulatory demands, while also evaluating internal organizational factors such as business model adaptability, talent retention, and customer-centric innovation. The findings identify critical strategies for IAMs to thrive in this dynamic environment. These include aligning business models with client needs, establishing a clear market profile through specialization, leveraging technology for operational efficiency, and fostering a strong organizational culture that attracts and retains talent. The study also emphasizes proactive succession planning and exploring growth opportunities through mergers and acquisitions. By combining theoretical insights and practical recommendations, this thesis presents a comprehensive framework for enhancing the future viability of IAMs. It concludes with a call for ongoing evaluation of these strategies and recommends further research to validate the model across other financial sectors.","abstract_html":"This study explores the evolving landscape of the independent asset management (IAM) sec-tor in Switzerland, focusing on the challenges and strategies necessary to ensure its future viability in light of regulatory changes, technological advancements, and evolving client expectations.
