This is the first doctoral-level study on this subject matter that combines a media artifact and a scholarly reflection regarding the education of Blacks at Oakwood; more broadly, this paper contributes to studies on African American ingenuity within the context of racial discrimination in education. As a member of an ethnic minority group in the United States and a native of the Caribbean, I understand the value of education and consider myself a social justice advocate.
