Portfolio of Compositions

This is a portfolio of thirteen compositions composed at Maynooth University during the period of March 2015 – July 2018. The portfolio’s main focal point is to bring together two diverse strands of musical influence; spectralism and minimalism. The portfolio explores the multiple manners in which these two can be merged together in order to promote the confluence of the two compositional approaches. It is important to note that whilst this is the main focus, other salient influences are apparent in the pieces. This thesis explains the importance of each piece and its role in the portfolio, while also illustrating the methodology that was applied in the pieces.
