Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis work has been conceived through the author's desire to comprehend the impact of growth/development/change on the architectural interpretation of an urban environment. The primary scope of this dissertation is a visual analysis of Tower Road - an urban space which has gone through a recent physical change. However the author believes that gaining an insight of an existing environment involves examining the particular - streets, squares, buildings ... as well as investigating historical data, anecdotal reports and insights of sensitive observers. Thus the resultant impression will compose one sort of character - 'place'' supporting an image of time. The author is convinced that it is always beneficial to re-examine the work of the past. such a task is essential if architecture is to develop and change, if the defects of one generation are to be overcome by the next and so on. The criticism put forward in the text is based on this understanding and is devoid of any implications. The author considers her work as the first step towards understanding that is taking place on Tower Road.
