The main concern of this work is to examine the effectiveness of illustrations in textbooks. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the topic, followed by a review of the relevant research on the subject in Chapter 2. In the third part, the contents of two textbooks are analysed. Chapter 4 is a qualitative research regarding students' experience with textbooks. A bibliography and appendices are also included. I hope that this work will provoke interest in teachers, and other people who are responsible for the production and design of textbooks.
