Studies on the rapid detection of the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes

In this work a selective impedimetric assay was developed with the aim of reducing the presumptive detection time of the pathogenic foodborne microbe Listeria monocytogenes. For rapid detection of the target organism, the physical assay conditions and the nutritional composition of the impedimetric medium were optimised for the metabolism of L. monocytogenes. Impedance, the algorithm found to be most reliable and reproducible, was used to monitor the electrical responses of the target species and impedance magnitude and detection time were chosen as the signals for detection.
