Les conditions de conservation des restes fauniques, la récurrence des occupations et la grande superficie du site ont fourni une masse considérable de données pour cette période peu connue de l’histoire des Néandertaliens. Les questions du choix du lieu d’occupation et de son organisation spatiale se sont très vite posées. Les analyses spatiales à l’aide des Systèmes d’Information Géographiques (SIG) sont apparues comme la méthode la plus performante pour répondre à ces questions. On a montré que la raison des nombreuses occupations successives était la disponibilité de toutes les ressources nécessaire : l’eau, le gibier et la matière première pour la fabrication des outils de boucherie. Ces Néandertaliens étaient des chasseurs opportunistes de cervidés. Ils ont également consommé de plus gros gibier comme l’aurochs et le rhinocéros par piégeage ou charognage.
