L’église de l’abbaye cistercienne Notre-Dame du Val-Dieu
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe Cistercian Abbey of “Notre-Dame du Val-Dieu” (Aubel, Belgium) is an architectural complex worthy of great interest, first from a stylistic point of view, because it shows a particular attention paid to regional characteristics of the architecture - and that over centuries - and secondly because its organization reflects a pervasive search functionality, as in many other monasteries of the same order. The abbey church itself has been the subject of various destructions and reconstructions. The monks each time managed to save part of the monument, limiting restoration work. The present work aims to study the evolution of this complex structure in order to also understand its current state. This requires distinguishing the different phases of construction, the parts of the church they related, and the vestiges that remain today.
