Robert Cundick: His Life, Influences, and Selected Organ Works

Many Latter-Day Saint organists yearn to be one of the full-time Tabernacle Organists in the famous Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. This dream does not come to fruition for a majority of those that aspire, but from 1965–1991 it did for Robert Cundick. Being appointed to this position requires advanced degrees, years of dedicated practicing and performances, and compositional sophistication. This document scrutinizes Cundick’s early life and education, his teaching and performance career, his contributions to large performance venues both within and outside of the Latter-Day Saints Church, and especially, his musical language and the style of his main organ works.
