Treatment Integrity in Tiered Systems

This dissertation offers a collection of works examining the measurement and use of treatment integrity in the context of tiered systems, with a particular focus on comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (Ci3T) models of prevention. We begin with a history of treatment integrity measurement, followed by a call to action for further research on methods of assessing treatment integrity at the educator-level in the context of tiered systems (Chapter 1). Next, we present a map of the literature in which we systematically identify studies of tiered systems and examine methods used to gather and report treatment integrity (Chapter 2). We then present two studies of the psychometric properties of a suite of Ci3T treatment integrity measures. The first explores the factor structure and internal consistency of these measures (Chapter 3). The second extends these findings by utilizing descriptive analyses to examine the relations between measures, with particular attention paid to potential differences between self-reported and directly observed ratings (Chapter 4). Lastly, we describe a programmatic line of inquiry extending this work, with an end goal of developing valid, reliable, and free-access measures to support use of treatment integrity in schools implementing Ci3T (Chapter 5).
