Folkloric and Ethnic Elements in Four Chinese Trumpet Compositions

This research examines the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Chinese trumpet repertoire through an analysis of four representative compositions: Dancing in the Moonlight(n/a) by Hesheng Wang, Driving Cart (1961) by Jiazhou Tao, The Spring of Pamirs (1972) by Ping Luo, and Gada Meilin Theme and Variations (1950) by Rizhao Huang. These works showcase the stylistic diversity and deep cultural influences inherent in Chinese trumpet music, rooted in traditional folk melodies and regional characteristics. The research focuses on how these compositions integrate elements of traditional Chinese music, including their use of tonalities, rhythmic structures, and melodic motifs, while adapting them for the expressive and technical capabilities of the Western trumpet. Through theoretical analysis and performance-oriented insights, this study highlights the intricate balance between preserving traditional musical idioms and exploring contemporary compositional approaches.
