Online Educational Piano Video Tutorials: Surveying and Perspectives on the Evolution of Technology in Piano Education

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

With the progress of science and technology and developments in the post-pandemic environment, online prerecorded teaching videos are becoming increasingly popular. Even traditional one-on-one and in-person piano teaching is not immune to this trend. Both piano students and educators are adjusting to this evolving landscape. Do these conditions have a positive impact on piano education? In this paper, I aim to explore the different types of online piano video tutorials available and assess their engagement level. I collected 131 survey responses from piano teachers regarding their attitude and adoption of online piano video tutorials. In addition, eNovativePiano co-creator Susie Garcia and other online piano teachers and influencers were asked about their methods and elements for creating online piano video tutorials. With effort from these creators, the improvement of AI, and shifting tastes, the future of online piano teaching is becoming more popular.
