This thesis is grounded in the published literature around pet (mostly dog) ownership, animal control, and pet shelters, as well as the ways in which people tend to acquire their pets. Through a program of grounded ethnographic research, informant interviews, and participatory design, the end goal is to envision and prototype a service concept for people applying to adopt a pet, including applications that allow the user to a) include breed specific information and b) track the application throughout the process. This will also provide animal rescue organizations a database to organize submitted applications and apply status updates.","abstract_html":"The purpose of this research and design is to better understand the application process for pet adoption as well as how animal rescue organizations track, approve, and communicate with applicants.
