Osmon), Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Grainger, and Halcyon Hearts by Katahj Copley","abstract":"This report provides a complete analysis of three works for wind band: Down Longford Way and Shenandoah by Percy Aldridge Grainger (arranged by Leroy Osmon), Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Aldridge Grainger, and Halcyon Hearts by Katahj Copley. The analysis of each of these works will provide necessary performance and preparatory information to any conductor who seeks to program these works. Information on the composer, the composition, historical perspectives as well as technical considerations, stylistic considerations, and musical elements are included. Furthermore, the form and structure, listening recommendations, and rehearsal plans are provided in this report. Each work is also analyzed using the graph analysis format developed by Dr. Frank Tracz, outlined in Mark Walker’s book, The Art of Interpretation of Band Music. The author’s philosophy of music education as well as considerations for the selection of quality literature are included to provide additional contextual information. The goal of this report is to provide resources to conductors and teachers who seek to program these selected works for wind band.","abstract_html":"This report provides a complete analysis of three works for wind band: Down Longford Way and Shenandoah by Percy Aldridge Grainger (arranged by Leroy Osmon), Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Aldridge Grainger, and Halcyon Hearts by Katahj Copley.
