Those Living in the Shadow of Death: A Short Story Cycle

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

My capstone is a short story cycle centered around broken people finding faith. The title of the collection, Those Living in the Shadow of Death, references Matthew 4:16: “on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” Each story features a character walking through “the land of the shadow of death,” finding and building on their faith despite the obstacles they face. These characters are all in different stages of their life but all are lost and broken in some way. The short story cycle essentially aims to answer this question: When it seems like every semblance of hope is lost, how do you keep moving forward?
