Query into Queer: A Creative and Analytical Examination of LGBTQ+ Experiences
Abstract
dc:description.abstract
“Query into Queer: A Creative and Analytical Examination of LGBTQ+ Experiences” is a portfolio of poetry and creative nonfiction essays that examines several LGBTQ+ topics, such as queer as an identity, the coming out process, representation within the LGBTQ+ community, internalized homophobia, labels and stereotypes, and the overall progression of a person discovering and embracing various aspects of their identity. The idea for this portfolio began with the examination of the evolution of queer and the growing LGBTQ+ acronym before transforming into reflective works that connect personal experiences with ongoing conversations surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to reflection on these topics, there is a transparent discussion of the writing and research process. This portfolio serves to showcase the relevance between creative and scholarly work, add to the conversation on these subjects, and tell a story of one person’s identity journey thus far. The essays and poems in this portfolio vary in format and tone, yet they work to present a cohesive progression of one person’s specific experiences while allowing for readers to relate, learn, or begin their own reflection.
