Through the exploration of the difficulties of publishing, Linnaeus' <em>Species Plantarum</em>, and three pre-Linnaean works from Pliny the Elder, Nehemiah Grew, and Rembert Dodoens, I have found that the history of the sciences has been largely distorted.
