Flickers in the Dark

<p>Alayna "Laney" Moreland is living in an emotional and abusive household. Her mother, Janelle, is an alcoholic. Laney grew up at a young age taking care of her. Janelle's boyfriend, Nick, is physically and verbally abusive towards Laney. Janelle tries to prevent it, but can't. Janelle eventually loses the battle with depression and commits suicide. Laney is placed in foster care after child protective services realizes what Nick is doing to her. Laney eventually learns how to cope with her mother's death and deal with her past.</p>
