ISCA is a large electronic conversation system that allows thousands of users to communicate through computer messages. This study will involve an ethnographic observation of ISCA users, examining how they communicate with one another. CMC can lower people's inhibitions significantly. Users may become self-dislosing about themselves to strangers, they may feel more able to engage in anti-social behavior, and they may feel more free to engage in playful behavior. These changes are significant enough that bulletin boards systems appear to form their own cultures and subcultures.
