Analysis of the multicultural perceptions of vocational education administrators in Iowa

dc:description.abstract<p>The present study examined the multicultural perception of community college administrators in Iowa. Seventy-eight administrators from all fifteen community colleges participated in the study. The instrument utilized in the study was the Multi-Factor Perceptions Attitudes Inventory (MAI) developed by Dr. Ron Wilson of the University of Missouri-Columbia. The researcher revised the MAI to ascertain information relative to race only. The MAI in its entirety gathers data related to issued of race and sex. Analysis of the results included an array of statistical tests (i.e., ANOVA, chi-squares, and t-test). The MAI is composed of three factors. Each descriptive of a degree of perceived misconceptions of facts about ethnic issues. The MAI is considered highly reliable as an instrument to evaluate a person's degree of cross-cultural understandings and beliefs. The findings of the study indicated Iowa community college administrators to be culturally illiterate in terms of understanding ethnic concepts and issues.</p>
