The possibility of combining narrow row spacings and reduced herbicide rates in no-tillage systems shows promise (DeFelice et al., 1989). However, the issues of the appropriate herbicides to use, proper application timings, and the size of the weeds at the times of application become important factors to address. These concerns require that additional practical information be discovered or confirmed to assure adequate weed management recommendations for producers when considering no-tillage soybean production. Realizing these needs, experiments were conducted throughout Iowa to evaluate weed management options in no-tillage systems. The objective of these experiments was to determine the effect of application rate and timing and soybean canopy on imazethapyr efficacy.
