Steady state vibration analysis of cam driven elastic slider crank linkage with displacement parameter variation

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

So far research has been done to reduce the vibrations of elastic linkages. Most methods deal with the tuning of one particular mechanism. For a cam driven linkage that most often means the adjustment of the cam profile. However, these methods deal with fixed displacement parameters, parameters which were fixed once before in the design process without knowing their influence on the mechanism's dynamic behavior. The parameters are the length of rise, fall and dwell periods as well as the starting and maximum angle of the output link. In the early design stage the engineer most often has the chance to change the displacement parameters slightly and still comply with other kinematic design specifications. However, a better dynamic behavior could be the result. That approach of using preselected displacement parameters is a passive method. The elasticity is taken into account, and the vibrations are accepted. But, the influence of the vibrations on the mechanisms functionality can be minimized. That passive method is the subject of this study. The influence of parameter variations on the vibrations during the dwells for a cam driven elastic slider crank mechanism is investigated. Based on a cam designed for assumed rigid body motion (kinematic synthesis), the actual output motion of the elastic linkage is determined. The results are presented for different parameter combinations to allow an early selection process of a suitable parameter set.
