Franz Liszt In Romania And The Rhapsody in G-minor, S. 242, No. 20, "Romanian Rhapsody"

On November 2, 1846, Franz Liszt embarked on a tour throughout the territories that now constitute present-day Romania. Despite its historical significance, his tour through these lands remains relatively obscure in the international music community. Most studies have instead focused on Liszt's activities in more westerly parts of Europe and his native Hungary. One musical testament to his acquired interest in the folk music of these regions is the so-called "Romanian Rhapsody," which remained unknown for eighty-five years after its completion. The project aims to contextualize and establish the importance and relevance of this work within Liszt's entire oeuvre, as well as to bring it to the attention of the international music community.
