The theoretical part is based on definitions of key concepts and theories. The key concepts are leadership, communication and motivation, while the theories are self-determination theory, Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Herzberg's two-factor theory. In addition, workplace motivation and the impact of remote work on motivation are discussed. Workplace motivation is defined with the help of expectancy theory, goal-setting theory and equity theory. In the analysis, leadership and its impact on employee motivation are discussed based on these theoretical frameworks. This study was conducted in the form of a systematically oriented literature review. The purpose of the study was to create a broad overview of the theme of the thesis, which also includes a critical review. The analyzed material consisted of eight scientific articles selected through systematic searches in research databases. The results show that there are several leadership characteristics that have a positive impact on employee motivation, but also some leadership characteristics that have a negative impact on employee motivation. In addition, leaders in telework need specific competencies. It is important that leaders are able to support employees' autonomy, competence and relatedness in remote work. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of the study is that there is a significant relationship between leadership and employee motivation.","abstract_html":"The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the impact of leadership on employee motivation in the workplace and how leaders can support employee motivation in remote work. Därutöver behöver ledare i distansarbete särskilda kompetenser.
