All participants had an SAT score of > 1150 and a high school GPA of > 3.5. Though all participants met the criteria for eligibility to at least one of two institutional honors programs, not all were in an honors program.</p> <p>A semi-structured telephone interview was used for data collection Conversations were taped, cataloged and coded. The results indicated that parents and significant others were important influences on decisions. Freshman year adjustment issues and environmental issues contributed to attrition.
