Miniaturized, Directional Antennas For Wireless Power Transfer

<p>Today’s age of ever advancing wireless technologies and compact mobile devices has given us the ability to stay connected in all but the remotest places on earth. However, one limiting factor to new wireless technologies has always been the battery. In this thesis the prospect of wireless power transfer for use in the remote powering of wireless devices is explored. First a UHF wireless power transfer systems is designed and tested to explore the feasibility of wireless power transfer. Next, two miniaturized antennas, an electrically small, circular polarized parasitic array antenna, and a miniaturized circularly polarized 2x2 array antenna, are introduced for possible use as wireless power reception antennas. Each antenna utilizes top-loading and multiple folding to achieve a compact geometry.</p>
