Perceived Threat of Hiv/Aids Between Men Who Have Sex With Men and Heterosexual Males

This study compared the perceived threat of HIV/AIDS and explored the sexual risky behaviors between men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexual males. Participants were asked to complete a 33 question survey which included 22 Likert-type scale questions developed to measure the perceived threat of HIV/AIDS, 8 dichotomous questions designed to measure sexual risk behavior and 3 demographic variables; age, sexual orientation and race. The case group consisted of 52 MSM and the control group consisted of 96 heterosexual males. No statistical significant diffrence was found among sexual risky behaviors. Findings from this study indicate that HIV/AIDS prevention efforts should continue to address sexual behavior practices of MSM. Increased sexual risky behavioral practices could lead to higher STD and HIV incidence and prevalence rates.
