ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑΤΙΚΗ ΚΑΙ ΟΙΚΟΛΟΓΙΚΗ ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΤΩΝ ΔΙΑΤΟΜΩΝ ΤΩΝ ΛΙΜΝΟΘΑΛΑΣΣΩΝ ΜΕΣΟΛΟΓΓΙΟΥ, ΑΙΤΩΛΙΚΟΥ ΚΑΙ ΚΛΕΙΣΟΒΑΣ
Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE PRESENT STUDY DEALS WITH THE TAXONOMY OF THE COMPLETELY UNKNOWN DIATOM FLORA THRIVING IN THE LAGOONS OF MESSOLONGI, AITOLIKO AND KLEISSOVA. A TOTAL OF 208DIATOM TAXA WERE IDENTIFIED, COMPRISING 43 GENERA, 155 SPECIES AND 53 VARIETIES OR FORMS. A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE TAXA (65) CONSTITUTE NEW ADDITIONS TO THE KNOWN GREEK DIATOM FLORA. MOREOVER, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE FOR AN ECOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE DIATOM COMMUNITIES COMPOSITION, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE MEASURED PHYSICOCHEMICAL DATA, TOWARDS A CLARIFICATION OF THE ECOLOGICAL RELATIONSHIPS OF THE VARIOUS BIOTOPES. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THIS INFORMATION, A FUTURE RESEARCH PROGRAM ON THE ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT AND MONITORING IS PROMISING. ON THE BASIS OF THESE DATA, THE ECOSYSTEM IN QUESTION CAN BE DISTINGUISHED INTO THREE "TYPES"OF BIOTOPES: A) BIOTOPES OF RELATIVE MARINE CHARACTER, WITH HIGH SALINITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND LOW CONCENTRATIONS OF PHOSPHOROUS AND NITROGEN COMPOUNDS, MESOTROPHIC, WITH RICH DIATOM FLORA AND HIGH SPECIES DIVERSITY (MESSOLONGI AND WEST KLEISSOVA LAGOONS) B) BIOTOPES WITH EVIDENT INFLUENCE FROM WATER OUTFLOWS RICH IN NITROGEN COMPOUNDS (ESPECIALLY NITRATES), EUTROPHIC, WITH LOW SALINITY (SLIGHTLY BRACKISH - BRACKISH WATERS) AND MEDIUM TO LOW DIATOM SPECIES DIVERSITY(AITOLIKO LAGOON) C) EUTROPHIC BIOTOPES WITH LOW TO MEDIUM SALINITY (SLIGHTLY TO STRONGLY BRACKISH WATERS) CHARACTERISED BY INCREASED CONCENTRATIONS OF AMMONIA AND PHOSPHOROUS (ESPECIALLY ORGANIC PHOSPHOROUS), AND LOW DIATOM SPECIES DIVERSITY (EAST KLEISSOVA LAGOON).
