Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE STUDY DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NON LINEAR ZP FINITE ELEMENT MICROMODEL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF UNREINFORCED MASONRY UNDER MONOTONIC IN-PLANE LOADING UNTIL FAILURE. THE MODEL IS CAPABLE OF SIMULATING DAMAGES IN MASONRY UNITS, MORTAR OR JOINTS AND PREDICTING BOTH JOINT OR COMPOSITE TYPE FAILURE DUE TO IN PLANESTRESSES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TRANSVERSE, SELF EQUILIBRATING, THIRD PRINCIPAL STRESSES. THE MODEL IS SUITABLE FOR ANY TYPE OF MASONRY BOND AND FOR ANY COMBINATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES MORTAR AND SOLID MASONRY UNITS. IT IS OBVIOUSTHAT AIM OF THE MODEL IS NOT THE DIRECT ANALYSIS OF MASSIVE MASONRY STRUCTURESNEITHER THE ESTIMATION OF RULES BUT THE PREDICTION OF THE DAMAGING PROCESS ANDTHE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES (FAILURE ENVELOPES AND NON-LINEAR CONSTITUTIVE LOWS)OF MASONRY UNDER MONOTONIC LOADING UNTIL FAILURE.
