ΥΔΡΟΓΕΩΛΟΓΙΚΕΣ ΣΥΝΘΗΚΕΣ ΝΟΤΙΟΥ ΛΙΓΝΙΤΟΦΟΡΟΥ ΠΕΔΙΟΥ ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΔΑΣ. ΠΡΟΒΛΗΜΑΤΑ ΥΠΟΓΕΙΩΝ ΝΕΡΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΤΙΜΕΤΩΠΙΣΗ ΤΟΥΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΤΗΝ ΕΚΜΕΤΑΛΛΕΥΣΗ
Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THIS RESEARCH WORK THE HYDROGEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF SOUTH LIGNITE BEARING BASIN OF PTOLEMAIS REGION, GREECE, ARE STUDIED IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE SOUTH FIELD OPEN CAST MINE AGAINST GROUNDWATER. THE GEOLOGY OF THE AREA IS STUDIED, THE VARIOUS PARAMETERS OF THE HYDROLOGIC BUDGET ARE ESTIMATED, THE GROUNDWATER QUALITY IN RELATION TO THE HYDROGEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS IN THE BASIN ARE INVESTIGATEDAND THE VALUES OF THE BASIC HYDRAULIC PARAMETERS OF THE FIELD ARE ESTIMATED. IN THE LAST CHAPTER A DEWATERING PLAN IS PROPOSED AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS FOLLOWING THE DEWATERING PROCEDURE ARE PREDICTED, BASED ON A MATHEMATICAL MODELOF GROUNDWATER FLOW IN THE HYDROGEOLOGICAL BASIN OF SOUTH FIELD PTOLEMAIS. THEAQUIFERS OF THE BASIN HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED INTO THE NEOGENE AND QUATERNARY FORMATIONS LYING ABOVE THE LIGNITE STRATIFICATION. THE LIGNITE BEARING COMPLEX IS THE IMPEARMEABLE BASE OF THE AQUIFER. THERE IS ONLY ONE DISCHARGE FROM THE BASINTHAT OCCURS THROUGH THE OUTFLOW OF SOULOU STREAM IN WHICH THE AQUIFERS ARE DISCHARGING. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS DEDUCED FROM THE DEWATERING SIMULATION A PUMPING RATE OF 3000 M3/HOUR AND 98 WELLS MUST BE DRILLED FOR THE DEWATERING AND PROTECTION OF THE MINE IN THE NEXT DECADE (1990- 2000). AN INVERSE OF GROUNDWATER FLOW PATTERN SOUTH OF THE EXCAVATION WILL OCCUR. THE MAIN AXIS OF FLOW WILL BE SOUTH TO NORTH IN THIS AREA. THE FOLLOWING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS WILL BE CAUSED BY THIS DEWATERING SYSTEM. A) WORSENING OF THE HYDROECONOMY OF THE BASIN WHICH IS IN A LIMIT OF THE RENEWABLE RESOURCES. B) A BIG DRAWDOWN IN THE REGION OFAGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT, SOUTH OF THE FUTURE EXCAVATION, THAT HAS AS CONSEQUENCE THE DECREASE OF THE WELLS EFFICIENCY. SOMETIMES EVEN DRYING OF SHALLOW WELLS COULD BE OBSERVED. C) DEGRADATION OF SURFACE AND GROUNDWATER QUALITY IN THE REGION OF SOULOU STREAM.
