Abstract
dc:descriptionQUITE OFTEN THE CLINICIAN FACES THE DILEMMA OF REPLACING OR REPAIRING A COMPOSITE RESIN FILLING. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO INVESTIGATE THE BOND STRENGTH, VIA SHEAR FORCES, OF REPAIRED COMPOSITE RESIN. A SMALL PARTICLE, AN HYBRIDE AND TWO MICROFILLED COMPOSITE RESINS WERE USED. CYLINDER SPECIMENS OF THE ABOVERESINS WERE CONSTRUCTED AND 7 DAYS LATER THEIR SURFACES WERE ABRADED WITH 320 GRID PAPER, TREATED WITH 37% O-PHOSPHORIC ACID OR POLYACRYLIC ACID AND REPAIREDWITH THE NEW COMPOSITE RESIN. THE RESINS WERE REPAIRED WITH THE SAME ONES BUT ALSO THE SMALL PARTICLE ONE WITH THE HYBRID AND VICE VERSA AND THE TWO MICROFILLED WERE PAIRED BETWEEN THEM. SPECIMENS SAME IN DIMENSIONS WITH THE REPAIRED, BUT FULLY POLYMERISED IN A BULK SERVED AS CONTROLS. FROM THE RESULTS IT WAS SHOWN THAT MICROFILLED COMPOSITE RESINS HAD SHEAR STRENGTH 17% TO 72% OF THE CONTROL SPECIMENS, THE SMALL PARTICLE 45% TO 75% AND THE HYBRID 28% TO 90%. THE TREATMENT OF THE SURFACES WITH O-PHOSPHORIC OR POLYACRYLIC ACID DID NOT AFFECT THE SHEAR STRENGTH OF THE REPAIRS .
