THE LS ESTIMATE OF THE IMPULSE RESPONSE OF SUCH FILTERS IS KNOWN TO BEGIVEN BY A STRUCTURED LINEAR SET OF EQUATIONS. IN THIS DISSERTATION NEW ALGORITHMS FOR THE EFFICIENT SOLUTION OF SUCH SYSTEMS ARE DEVELOPED. THE ALGORITHMS ARE OF DIFFERENT TYPES, I.E . LATTICE, ADAPTIVE TRANSVERSAL, LEVINSON-TYPE AND SCHUR TYPE. THE INVOLVED INTERNAL VARIABLES ARE ALL SYMMETRIC BECAUSE THE ALGORITHMS ARE DEVELOPED SO AS TO RESPECT THE SYMMETRY WHICH IS INTRINSIC IN THE LINEAR PHASE PROBLEM.
