Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THE PRESENT THESIS, A COMPUTER-AIDED METHOD FOR THE AUTOMATION OF PROCEDURESWHICH REDUCE THE TIME EFFORT AND COSTS REFERING TO THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF CAM MECHANISMS, IS INTRODUCED. THE STUDY OF CAM MECHANISMS INCLUDES THE CAM GEOMETRY DEFINITION, THE STUDY OF DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR AND THE GENERASION OF A PART PROGRAM FOR THE MANUFACTURING WITH A CNC MACHINE. THE DESIGN PHASE REQUIRESTHE AUTOMATIC SELECTION OF OPTIMAL MATHEMATICAL FUNCTIONS DEALING WITH THE CONDITIONS IN EVERY TRANCIENT REGION, WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR THE CALCULATION OF CAM DIMENSIONS. THIS AUTOMATION LEADS TO A PRECISE AND EASY DESIGN, OF THE CURVE BEING STUDIED. THE CAM'S DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR IS STUDIED THROUGH SIMULATION MODELS. AMONG OTHERS THE STUDY AIMS ON DEFINING THE ACCEPTABLE OPERATING LIMITS OF THE CAM'S. IN THE FINAL PART OF THIS WORK, THE GENERATION OF THE PART PROGRAMME FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF A CAM ON A CNC MACHINE IS DESCRIBED. THIS PROCEDURE IS BASED ON THE DETERMINATION OF THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF POINTS THAT DESCRIBES THE CAM GEOMETRY FOR A PARTICULAR TOLERANCE . THESE POINTS TOGETHER WITH THE CNC MACHINE CHARACTERISTICS MAKE UP A PART PROGRAM INTO ISO-1056 CODE.
