THE METHOD WAS OPTIMIZED EITHER AS DIRECT DETERMINATION WITHOUT PRECONCENTRATION AND WITH PRECONCENTRATIONON A AU-PT AMALGAMATOR . IN THE FIRST CASE THE OPTIMIZATION WAS ACHIEVED BY THE APPLICATION OF A COMPLETE FACTORIAL DESIGN, ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE OF RESULTS AND DETERMINATION OF OPTIMUM RESPONSE SURFACE BY MEANS OF ONE-AT-A-TIME EXPERIMENTS. IN THE SECOND CASE, THE OPTIMIZATION WAS DONE BY SUBSEQUENT USE OF FRACTIONAL FACTORIAL DESIGN, ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE AND FINALLY A MODIFIED SIMPLEX METHOD. IN BOTH CASES THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE DETERMINATION OF MERCURY WERE EVALUATED QUANTITATIVELY, THE SIGNIFICANT INTERACTIONS WERE REVEALED, THE OPTIMUM RESPONSE SURFACES WERE LOCALIZED AND CALIBRATION CURVES WERE PLOTTED. ANOTHER AIM OF THIS WORK WAS TO FIND THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR THE SELECTIVE DETERMINATIONOF SOME ORGANOMERCURY SPECIES IN THEIR MIXTURES. THE BEHAVIOUR OF THEM WAS TESTED AGAINST SOME OXIDANTS AND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM WERE MAXIMIZED TO PERMIT THE DIFFERENTIATION OF THEM BY MEANS OF CV-AAS WITH SEMI-QUANTITATIVE RESULTS. ΚΑΙ ΣΤΙΣ ΔΥΟ ΠΕΡΙΠΤΩΣΕΙΣ, ΕΓΙΝΕ ΠΟΣΟΤΙΚΗ ΑΞΙΟΛΟΓΗΣΗ ΤΩΝ ΠΑΡΑΓΟΝΤΩΝ ΠΟΥ ΕΠΙΔΡΟΥΝ ΣΤΟΝ ΠΡΟΣΔΙΟΡΙΣΜΟ, ΒΡΕΘΗΚΑΝ ΟΙ ΣΗΜΑΝΤΙΚΕΣ ΑΛΛΗΛΕΠΙΔΡΑΣΕΙΣ, ΕΝΤΟΠΙΣΤΗΚΑΝ ΟΙ ΒΕΛΤΙΣΤΕΣ ΣΥΝΘΗΚΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΧΑΡΑΧΤΗΚΑΝ ΟΙ ΚΑΜΠΥΛΕΣ ΑΝΑΦΟΡΑΣ. THE METHOD WAS OPTIMIZED EITHER AS DIRECT DETERMINATION WITHOUT PRECONCENTRATION AND WITH PRECONCENTRATIONON A AU-PT AMALGAMATOR . IN THE FIRST CASE THE OPTIMIZATION WAS ACHIEVED BY THE APPLICATION OF A COMPLETE FACTORIAL DESIGN, ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE OF RESULTS AND DETERMINATION OF OPTIMUM RESPONSE SURFACE BY MEANS OF ONE-AT-A-TIME EXPERIMENTS. IN THE SECOND CASE, THE OPTIMIZATION WAS DONE BY SUBSEQUENT USE OF FRACTIONAL FACTORIAL DESIGN, ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE AND FINALLY A MODIFIED SIMPLEX METHOD. IN BOTH CASES THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE DETERMINATION OF MERCURY WERE EVALUATED QUANTITATIVELY, THE SIGNIFICANT INTERACTIONS WERE REVEALED, THE OPTIMUM RESPONSE SURFACES WERE LOCALIZED AND CALIBRATION CURVES WERE PLOTTED. ANOTHER AIM OF THIS WORK WAS TO FIND THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR THE SELECTIVE DETERMINATIONOF SOME ORGANOMERCURY SPECIES IN THEIR MIXTURES. THE BEHAVIOUR OF THEM WAS TESTED AGAINST SOME OXIDANTS AND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM WERE MAXIMIZED TO PERMIT THE DIFFERENTIATION OF THEM BY MEANS OF CV-AAS WITH SEMI-QUANTITATIVE RESULTS. THE SPECTRAL INTERFERENCES OF SOME ORGANIC SOLVENTS WERE STUDIED AND TWO CHEMICAL METHODS OF IMPROVING THE TOLERANCE LIMITS OF THEM WERE TRIED WITH SUFFICIENT RESULTS.
