Abstract
dc:descriptionDUE TO GROWING INTEREST OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS IN A/C MANUFACTURING THE DEVOLPEMENT OF PREDICTIVE METHODS FOR LIFING STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS IS CONSIDERED OF CARDINAL IMPORTANCE. THE PREVIOUS PHILOSOPHY OF A/C DESIGN "SAFE LIFE" HAS BEEN REPLACED BY ANOTHER DESIGN CONCEPT "DAMAGE TOLERANCE". WITHIN THE OVERALL CONCEPT OF "DAMAGE TOLERANT" PRODUCTS "NDE" AND ACOUSTIC EMISSION METHOD PLAY SIGNIFICANT ROLES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNIQUES FOR ASSESSING DAMAGE ACCUMULATION AND MONITORING DIFFERENT FAILURE MODES. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO STUDYDAMAGE ACCUMULATION ON THE BASIS OF MINER'S RULE, BUT IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PREDICTED LINEAR DAMAGE RULE LIVES UP TO THREE TIMES THOSE ACTUALLY MEASURED. IN THE PRESENT WORK DIFFERENT TYPES OF STRUCTURAL COMPOSITES (CFRTL) AND (G.E.R. THERMOPLASTICS) WERE MONITORED BY ACOUSTIC EMISSION. MODELS BASED ON THE ACOUSTIC EMISSION ENERGY RATE [E] WERE DEVELOPED TO PREDICT THE BEHAVIOURAL AND THE RESIDUAL LIFE OF THE MATERIAL UNDER DIFFERENT STRESS LEVELS.
