FOR SOME IMPORTANT CLASSES OF POROUS MEDIA (E.G. SEDIMENTARY OIL-BEARING ROCKS, GRANULAR MATERIALS, CATALYSTS, ETC) THE PORE SPACE CAN BE REPRESENTED AS A MATRIX OF LARGE CHAMBERSINTERCONNECTED THROUGH NARROW THROATS. IN THE PRESENT WORK STEP MERCURY POROSIMETRY IN CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS IS STUDIED. FIRST, MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRACTION IN ARTIFICIAL PLANAR CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS ETCHED IN GLASS PLATES IS STUDIED. FOR THE INTERPRETATION OF EXPERIMENTAL CAPILLARY PRESSURE CURVES A THEORETICAL SIMULATOR OF MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRUCTION IN PORE NETWORKS WITH GEOMETRICAL AND TOPOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS SIMILAR TO THE CORRESPONDING ONES OF THE EXPERIMENTAL MODELS IS DEVELOPED . BASED ON THE ABOVE EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL ANALYSIS A THEORETICAL SIMULATOR OF MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRACTION IN THREE- DIMENSIONAL CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS WHICH ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF REAL POROUS MEDIA IS DEVELOPED. BY USING THIS SIMULATOR THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS STRUCTURALPARAMETERS (SUCH AS THE CHAMBER SIZE DISTRIBUTION, THE THROAT SIZE DISTRIBUTION, THE MEAN COORDINATION NUMBER, THE CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THROAT SIZES AND CHAMBER SIZES AND THE PORE WALL ROUGHNESS) ON THE FORM AND THE DEGREE OF HYSTERESISOF THEORETICAL CAPILLARY PRESSURE CURVES IS INVESTIGATED. THE RELIABILITY OF THE SIMULATOR IS EVALUATED WITH RESPECT TO THE QUALITATIVE PREDICTION OF THE CAPILLARY BEHAVIOUR OF GREEK LIMESTONES. IN THE PRESENT WORK STEP MERCURY POROSIMETRY IN CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS IS STUDIED. FIRST, MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRACTION IN ARTIFICIAL PLANAR CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS ETCHED IN GLASS PLATES IS STUDIED. FOR THE INTERPRETATION OF EXPERIMENTAL CAPILLARY PRESSURE CURVES A THEORETICAL SIMULATOR OF MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRUCTION IN PORE NETWORKS WITH GEOMETRICAL AND TOPOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS SIMILAR TO THE CORRESPONDING ONES OF THE EXPERIMENTAL MODELS IS DEVELOPED . BASED ON THE ABOVE EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL ANALYSIS A THEORETICAL SIMULATOR OF MERCURY INTRUSION-RETRACTION IN THREE- DIMENSIONAL CHAMBER-AND-THROAT NETWORKS WHICH ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF REAL POROUS MEDIA IS DEVELOPED. BY USING THIS SIMULATOR THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS STRUCTURALPARAMETERS (SUCH AS THE CHAMBER SIZE DISTRIBUTION, THE THROAT SIZE DISTRIBUTION, THE MEAN COORDINATION NUMBER, THE CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THROAT SIZES AND CHAMBER SIZES AND THE PORE WALL ROUGHNESS) ON THE FORM AND THE DEGREE OF HYSTERESISOF THEORETICAL CAPILLARY PRESSURE CURVES IS INVESTIGATED. THE RELIABILITY OF THE SIMULATOR IS EVALUATED WITH RESPECT TO THE QUALITATIVE PREDICTION OF THE CAPILLARY BEHAVIOUR OF GREEK LIMESTONES. A PROCEDURE FOR THE ROUGH DECONVOLUTION OF MERCURY INTRUSION CURVES OF SANDSTONES IN COMBINATION WITH INFORMATION RESULTING FROM SERIAL SECTION ANALYSIS OF PORECASTS IS ALSO GIVEN.
