Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE EFFECTS OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PRETREATMENTS ON THE PARTICLE SIZE, SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA, CRYSTALLINITY INDEX, CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, DENSITY OF WHEAT STRAW IS EXAMINED. THE PHYSICAL PRETREATMENTS STUDIED WERE HAMMER - AND BALL-MILLING. THE CHEMICAL PRETREATMENTS UTILIZED WERE DELIGNIFICATIONS WITH AQUEOUS ALKALINE SOLUTIONS (NAOH, KOH, NA2CO3) AND ALCOHOL-WATER MIXTURES (METHANOL, ETHANOL, ISOPROPANOL, N-BUTANOL). THE EFFECT OF PRETREATMENTS ON THERMOCHEMICAL CONVERSION TO CHARCOAL, ON ENZYMIC HYDROLYSIS WITH ASPERGILLUS NIGER, TRICHODERMA VIVIDE AND FUSARIUM OXYSPORUM CELLULASES AND ON BIOETHANOL PRODUCTION WITH F . OXYSPORUM CELLULASES AND ON BIOETHANOL PRODUCTION WITH F. OXYSPORUM WAS EVALUATED D.CONVERSION YIELDS ARE INVERSE LINEAR FUNCTIONS OF PARTICLE SIZE AND LINEAR FUNCTION OF DEGREE OF DELIGNIFICATION. SECOND ORDER CORRELATIONS WITH RESPECT TO CRYSTALLINITY INDEX AND LIGNIN CONTENT OF CONVERSION PARAMETERS ARE PROPOSED.
