Abstract
dc:descriptionThe use, attitude and knowledge on drugs and the socioeconomic factors associated with drug use were examined by a survey among 8.000 high school students in Greece. Regular and occasional use of drugs was 2.1% among students of the 12th grade and 0.9% among students of the 9th grade. The percentage of students who report a single trial of some drugs was 5.2% in the 12th grade and 1.7% in the 9th grade. Students had a great ignorance on hazards of drug use. As for their attitude towards the social phenomenon of drug abuse, the general view expressed favour measures again of illicit drugs, such as imprisonment of the dealers. Age and sex of the students smoking and drinking, problems in school, patterns of substance use in family, disrupted family life, absence of father, high educational parents level, working students and high amount of personal exponses are the most important factors who can predict the use of drugs.
