THE FIRST PART OF THE WORK CONCERNS THE ENERGY TRANSFER FROM A GLOW DISCHARGE TO A METAL SURFACE. THE CASE STUDIED IS THAT OF A N2 GLOW DICHARGE HEATING A W, PT, OR FE SURFACE. IN THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK THE ROLE OF EACH EXCITATION MODE OFTHE PLASMA SPECIES IS STUDIED SEPARATELY. THE ROLE OF THE ATOM RECOMBINATION ON THE SURFACE IS ALSO STUDIED. A MODEL THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT SEPARATELY THE TRANSFER OF EACH EXCITATION MODE OF THE PLASMA SPECIES IS DISCUSSED ALSO IN THE FIRST PART. IN THE SECOND PART OF THIS WORK LASER INDUCE FLUORESCENCE (L.I.F) HAS BEEN USED TO EXPLORE THE INTERACTION OF A NITROGEN PLASMA WITH A METAL SURFACE . L.I.F MEASUREMENTS INDICATE A QUASILINEAR DECREASE OF THE N2+ (B2 ΣU+)U=0 LIFETIME NEAR THE CATHODE. AN INTERPRETATION OF THIS PHENOMENON AND A NUMERICALSIMULATION IS DISCUSSED IN THIS PART. THE CALCULATED VALUES ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. THE DEPENDENCE OF LIFETIME DECREASE ON THE SHEATH POTENTIAL AS WELL AS ON OTHER IMPORTANT PARAMETERS (CROSS SECTION, PROFILE OFTHE ELECTRIC FIELD, PRESSURE, SHEATH LENGTH) IS FURTHER DISCUSSED.
