Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE LEACHING OF NICKELIFEROUS LATERITES BY SULFURIC ACID IS AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO THE HIGH PRESSURE LEACHING. TWO TYPES OF ORES WERE STUDIED (SERPENTINIC, HEMATITIC) AND THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS LIKE LEACHING TEMPERATURE, ACID CONSUMPTION, PULP DENSITY, PREHEATING OF ORE ETC ON METALS RECOVERY AND ACID CONSUMPTION WAS INVESTIGATED. THESE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTSWERE CONFIRMED BY THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A SMALL PILOT LEACHING PLANT FOR CONTINUOUS COCURRENT LEACHING. THE DATA GATHERED BY EXPERIMENTAL WORK WERE USED FOR COMPUTER SIMULATION OF THE LEACHING PROCESS FLOW SHEET. FINALLY, THE INVESTMENT AND OPERATING LOST OF AN ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE ACID LEACHING PLANT WERE ESTIMATED IN COMPARISON WITH THE COST OF THE HIGH PRESSURE LEACHING.
