THE SUBJECT IS MAINLY TACKLED BY MEANS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF CERTAIN CRITERIA AND HEURISTICS BASED ON THERMODYNAMICAL PRINCIPLES. IN THIS ESSAY THE PROBLEM IS TACKLED BY MEANS OF METHODS UTILING MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING. ON THE FIRST PHASE THE PROBLEM OF DETERMINING THE SUITABLE AUXILIARY FLOWS OF MINIMUM COST IS SOLVED. THE OPTIMUM AUXILIARY FLOWS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE THE DESIGN TARGET OF THE SECOND PHASE.
