The reactivity of sera from patients with primary Sjogren’s syndrome towards the Ro and La polypeptides was examined and compared with the detection of precipitins by counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE). Sera with antiRo reactivity recognized two polypeptides with MW 50KD and 60KD and sera with antiLa reactivity one polypeptide with 40KD. Immunoblotting was more sensitive in the detection of antiRo (89%) and antiLa (90%) antibodies than CIE (76% and 73% respectively). AntiLa antibodies were frequently detected in sera of patients with antiRo precipitins antiLa antibodies were detected in sera of patients with antibodies to the 50KD Ro polypeptide rather than in sera of patients with antibodies to the 60KD Ro polypeptide indicating that La and 50KD Ro polypeptides are interrelated. Οροί ασθενών με πρωτοπαθές σύνδρομο Sjogren (1° σΣ) μελετήθηκαν με την μέθοδο αυτή και τα αποτελέσματα της ανοσοαποτύπωσης συγκρίθηκαν με αυτά της αντίθετης ανοσοηλεκτροφόρησης (ΑΑΗ). Οροί ασθενών με αντιRo ειδικότητα αναγνώριζαν δύο πολυπεπτίδια με ΜΒ 50KD και 60KD (ερυθρά αιμοσφαίρια) και οροί με αντιLa ειδικότητα ένα πολυπεπτίδιο με ΜΒ 40KD.
