Abstract

dc:description

Secondary protons from interactions on a free nucleon target cannot go backwards. Therefore, the selection of events with fast backward protons might allow the study of the high momentum component tail of the Fermi momentum distribution, arising, perhaps, from short-range nucleon-nucleon correlations in the nucleus. The detailed study of the characteristics of the events with backward protons in charged current interactions, produced in the Big European Bubble Chamber (BEBC) by the neutrino and antineutrino wide-band beams (beam energy 10-300 GeV), is presented in this Thesis. The results obtained are compared with other experiments and theory. The complete backward proton data is compatible with protons produced by reinteraction processes in the nucleus. However, after selecting data with fewer reinteractions, the muon variable υ appears to be correlated to the variable α of the backward proton, as expected by the two-nuclean correlation model.
